New USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) carrier-shaped challenge coin.  The coin is 3" x .77" x .157" with diecast impressions on front and back.   The coin is cast from the ship's blueprint and is to scale to include the flight deck layout.

The USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) is an aircraft carrier of the US Navy and the third ship in the Nimitz-class carriers. One of the largest warships in the world, she was commissioned on March 13, 1982, in Newport News, VA.

The ship was named in honor of Carl Vinson, a congressman from Georgia and avid supporter of the U.S. Navy.  Congressman Vinson was a member of the House of Representatives for 50 years and was instrumental in the Two-Ocean Navy Act which provided for the monumental shipbuilding effort in World War II.

In 2020, the USS Carl Vinson changed home port back to San Diego, CA. The ship has a proud history including launching the first airstrikes in support of Operation Enduring Freedom on 7 October 2001.  For 72 days, the USS Carl Vinson launched over 4000 combat sorties in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
