It supported the Global War on Terrorism through combat deployments and has been involved in humanitarian efforts, such as disaster relief after Typhoon Haiyan. The ship has frequently participated in international military exercises and provided warfighting support, including during Operations Enduring Freedom and Inherent Resolve. Notably, the Ronald Reagan assisted in the 2021 Afghanistan evacuation. Forward-deployed to Japan in 2015, it moved to Bremerton in 2024.
